A Message from the Museum

A Message from the Museum
16.12.25, 11:00
We at the Jewish Museum Trondheim would like to offer our condolences and express our sympathies to the friends and relatives of the victims of the horrendous attack in Sydney on Sunday. Our thoughts go out to our friends and colleagues in the Jewish communities of Trondheim and Oslo, who are deeply affected by this event.
Sadly, attacks on Jewish communities around the world is nothing new, and part of a long history of persecution. We are deeply worried about the rise of antisemitism in Europe and in Norway – and will continue to work toward strengthening the education on antisemitism and its consequences, particularly among school children but also the general public. We appreciate that the Norwegian government recognizes the need for strengthened efforts to battle the rise of antisemitism in Norway, where we are a close partner.
In the midst of this sadness, we were happy to hear that the Trondheim community had a nice and safe celebration this Sunday, and that 100 members participated to show their support. Hanukka is supposed to be a festive occasion, bringing together families, singing songs, eating latkes and sufganyot, playing games like dreidel, and celebrating the rededication of the Jerusalem temple. This time, the celebration also included a memorial service – where a member originally from Sydney’s Jewish community held a speech in memory of the victims.
On this third day of Hanukka, we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.
