The photo collection at the Jewish Museum Trondheim consists of diverse and valuable material spanning several generations. It documents holidays, family events, association life, shop operations and everyday moments in the Norwegian Jewish minority. There are pictures here from bar mitzvah celebrations, weddings and funerals, but also from shop premises, school classes, association meetings and family parties – moments that bring to life the stories we otherwise know as text, statistics or the name of a document.

Through the images, we gain a visual insight into how Jewish life was lived in Nordenfjeldske Norway: how people lived, dressed, celebrated, worked and participated in social life. The collection gives researchers, descendants and the public an invaluable opportunity to understand and interpret a cultural heritage that has been both visible and invisible in Norwegian society. The images are not just documentation – they are carriers of memories, identity and belonging, and contribute to strengthening both collective and individual understanding of the past and present.
