Lecture on the work of the Norwegian Agency for Cultural Heritage with the cultural environment of national minorities

12/10/24, 11:00 AM

From you and me to us and ours

Minister of Antiquities Øystein Hagland is a senior advisor at the Cultural Heritage Department in the Section for Preservation and Conservation Plans (KFV). He will come to the Jewish Museum Trondheim to talk about the work on the protection of cultural environments associated with national minorities in Norway – namely Jews, Kvens, Forest Finns, Roma and Romani.

Hagland is a trained historian. He previously worked at the Ministry of Culture and the Environment, and has worked at the Ministry of Antiquities since 2014. Today, his main field of study is the cultural environment of national minorities.

What exactly is a “cultural environment”, and how does the Ministry of Antiquities work to assess which cultural environments have value? Which cultural environments are important for the Jewish minority in Norway? The old Jewish district “Nerby’n”, for example, is considered a Jewish cultural environment, but has few objects worthy of preservation. What issues does this present?

The lecture is in Norwegian.

The event takes place during the open museum, and is open and available to anyone who wishes to participate.

Free admission.
